Character Design

Illustration

Ever since I was a tiny little thing, a fundamental part of my life has been dreaming up characters and stories, and then bringing them to life through art. I feel more at home designing and illustrating fictional characters than I do any other facet of the trade. My second passion in visual art is playing with color and using bright, bold choices. Below are a few samples of my works including character designs, illustrations, and graphic design work! 🙂

Pokémon Party at the Café de Poké, 2019, digital illustration for The Galar Zine collaborative project.
Pokémon (c) Nintendo.

The above image was created for my contribution to The Galar Zine, a collaborative fan-works collection of media created in honor of the Pokémon franchise releasing its newest titles, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. The theme of this particular piece was to combine several new Pokémon species with a sweets shop vibe.

“Give it up for EDEN’s heartthrob, Nephrite!”

Nephrite Profile, 2019, digital illustration for Keepers of Eden, an original collaborative story.

Design elements were key to this illustration: we needed to invoke a blend of modern fashion with fantastical LED-style elements, as well as posing the character in the style of musical idols, particularly those featured in South Korea.

…

My Queen, 2019, digital illustration for Estrea vs. Hosnea, an original collaborative story.

Initially done as a background study, the above illustration blossomed forth to capture a scene from another story featuring a familiar character to this page, Nephrite – a departure from the futuristic idol setting previously noted, Estrea vs. Hosnea takes place in a mystical world with your typical fantasy creatures such as elves and dragons. It is a very green world – even when touched by snowfall.

“Kinsey’s really something else, ain’t he?”

Lounging in a Bi-gone Era, 2020, digital illustration for The Prism Project collaborative art book.

Another group project contribution, this illustration was to fit the theme of bisexuality in the 1950s USA! Alfred Kinsey’s studies were groundbreaking at the time. The color palette of this illustration was meant to reference the bisexual pride flag heavily, mixing blues, purples, and pinks.
